I'm in the process of buying a 92 Hardbody for my little brother because he's such a fan of mine and I think it'll make a nice first car for him. I've kind of fallen in love with the square dash that his is going to come with and its in very good shape. He's expressed interest in the round dash that my truck has.
I know a lot of people will swap the square dash out for the round one, but I'm wondering if itd be possible to go backwards and swap the round dash of a newer truck for the older square dashes. Has anyone gone backwards with it like this before? |

Hard part will be the speedo. 92 is cable driven. 94 is electronic. 93 did have a hybrid square dash with electronic speedo.....if you get lucky with the cluster you grab.

Ahh, id be looking at swapping between the two trucks so itd be a 92 mechanical speedo. Looking online it looks like theres some kits to convert from electrical to cable driven (something like this: https://www.classictransmissionsolut...4aAsXjEALw_wcB). Any clue if something like this would work? Or because the truck came from the factory with an electric speedo would it not?

That kind of kit is unnecessary. As long as the trucks have the same engine size and transmission type (4 cyl, 5 speed, 2wd) you can swap the speedometer cable into the newer truck and the speed sensor into the older truck. Then you’d need cut the connectors from each truck and match up the wires for each cluster.
