It changes the engine speed at which the transmission shifts.

I have that switch as well, but haven't made it down the repair list far enough to even think about what it was. I guessed it had to do with Tranny shift adjustments, but haven't changed positions whilst driving yet to see. Interesting option though.

her lexus has one of those switches. when its in normal mode, the trans shifts so smooth you cant even tell its shifting. when its in sport or what ever its called, it has a much more firm shift and it will spin the tires hitting second gear on a wet road.

I cheated, and used some Google-Fu to find an eBay image. I uploaded it here, so the image will still be available after the item sells (long-term reference for others).

According to the manual when you step on it and are accelerating hard, the transmission automatically switches to power mode. This option was only available on the VG30 engine models.

I found this out just a few days ago. My 92 V6 4x4 automatic was really reluctant to upshift, I figured maybe something was wrong with the transmission. I noticed a week or so ago that the E-A/T switch was flipped to "Power", looked up what it did, flipped it back to "Auto" and voila, upshifts much sooner.
