welcome to IN.

how long has the trans been doing this? has it ever been serviced? what does the fluid look like? check the computer for trouble codes.

I would consider replacing the filter in the trans and changing the fluid first. I used Valvoline Maxlife in my former 94 pathfinder.

There is a self diagnosis feature shown in the service manual for the auto tranny. I do not have the manual for the 92, but it is shown in the 94 manual.

johnber do those transmissions have shift solenoids? we used to have a camry that had a bad 1-2 solenoid. one day out of no where the car started taking off in second gear unless it was manually put in first gear. i checked the codes and it showed a bad solenoid. so i got a new solenoid online for 20 bucks and its shifted like a dream ever since then.
