Hi all
I got a 02 Xterra but didn't have the key.I have another 02 Xterra with the key. I took the Ignition lock cylinder out of my parts Xterra and put it in the one I just bought after calling the nissian dealership to confirm that it didn't come with a chip key. It would crank but not start. I checked the fuel preasure (50psi), cleaned gas tank, compression check was good, checked primary and secondary coils, resistor, checked spark with spark advance tester on each cylinder, voltage at each injector along with pulse checked with noid light tester, cleaned throttle body out, replaced tpi and maf sensor with known good ones from parts Xterra, checked and cleaned all known grounds and still a no start. Even sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body and not even a back fire As I was researching I read that if there was a flashing key on the dash cluster while cranking then the immobilizer will not allow it to start. So I called another nissian dealership to confirm that it didn't have a chip key and he Said it did. To make a long an frustrating story short. I called a total of 5 an 3 out of 5 said it didn't an 2 said it does. I'm assuming the flashing "key lock cylinder" while cranking means it did come factory with a chip key, correct? If so, can I take the immobilizer an ECU out of the Xterra I took the Ignition lock cylinder out of and swap them? Is there a bypass? Can I take the Ignition lock cylinder I took out to a dealership or locksmith and have a chip key cut? Thanks in advance for any help. |

I don’t know if ALL of them had a transponder key, but the replacement keys for them are transponder keys. I’m not sure what the process is for having the key programmed though

Thanks or your response. Do you know if there's anything else I would have to swap besides the immobilizer and ECU?
