Default The Sweet Mechanics Pretty Girl Special Here. That is the story of my life.

And that my *new friends, is what has brought me here. I may be intelligent but why do people think I can't see that a 400$ new starter price tag is just wrong.

Hi my name is Kristin, I am new to the threads, and new to being a Nissan hardbody truck owner. I am not new to gettin "taken" by mechanics though and have been since 2008. So, I would say that I am generally experienced in that section.

I just graduated my undergraduate degree (yes, late in the game since I am late 30's), pandemic ending, and in between job searching (Bakersfield to LA) and Law School. So, funds are kind of tight.

As is, learning about this truck, I have 1 failing part of the SMOG issue, I didn't realize an AC unit couldn't be put in without a complete custom build/remove the dashboard, and no power steering ability (I have had a drive line put in).

But, boy do I really enjoy this truck. For a 2.4 L engine, is that correct? She gets up and goes!!! Also, she has outran my other cars which one is currently in the shop... talk about 4K later and they still haven't said "she's ready to be picked up". Just running me into the ground on that mechanic special. I even had the neighbor haul it in without anyone seeing me in person!!!

I look forward to gaining insight and point to's for trusted folks, stuck in midland California outside of Bakersfield.

Greeting Kristin and welcome. We do like D21 images, please share...

If you know which end of a Box/Open wrench to use, you'll fit in just fine. I'm sure most of us have heard many of the "mechanics BS" to tell you what is what...

Probably at least as bad as a Jeep so worse than a cow.

Welcome to the site.
I hate to think there is a double standard when getting mechanic's quotes, but I imagine some shops are that way. Many will overcharge anyone regardless of race, creed, color or gender. That is why we all come here to collect and share DIY information.

Welcome to IN. You will enjoy the site.

First of all, adding AC is way easier than you think. Nissan used a “universal” wire harness. That means the non AC trucks are already wired for AC. Check out the retrofit AC thread we have. http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/...ad.php?t=12012

The hardest part is gathering all the parts in that thread……AC compressor and bracket, idler pulley, condenser etc. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you can do every bit of the work.

Just remember that Goonies never say die!!! lol
