Default Parts and consumables needed on the long run

Hi everyone.

Eventhough I live in Japan, parts for a hardbody are extremely hard to find. Most trucks were shipped to other asian countries, so there's nothing on the scrapyards. Therefore, I either have to buy OEM, which are very difficult to get nowadays, or import used ones from abroad (ironic).

My question is, which parts and consumables are bound to break or wear out in the long run?

I'm trying to gather as many parts as I can before something breaks, because this month was a nightmare to find the leaf spring's damper, which was needed to pass the annual car inspection. Had to buy a damper from a different car, get a new steel mount made and weld to that damper.

So far, replaced the clutch, control arm bushings, sway bar bushings and front shocks.

Get a spare master/slave for the hydraulic clutch. You'll need them, eventually.

Tried ordering some random part from it and the shipping price to Japan shows up in the cart, so I guess they do!

Do they have a good stock/prices? Never used it before.

In my experience, RockAuto has the best prices. Returns have been hassle free and they ship fast. They carry name brand parts, some are from the OEM. When you're ready to buy from them, Google "RockAuto discount codes" and you'll find codes that can lower your bill from 5% or more.

If you're really in a pinch, consider this. Here in the US we have a website called row52.com. They cater to the junkyards that let you bring your own tools and pull your own parts. They also have a section where locals will go to those yards and pull parts and ship them to you for a fee. I can't vouch for them, never used them.

I searched for D21's here in Phoenix and there are 18 people registered to go and pull the parts if needed.

The diesel was not imported to the USA either. I think Australia and some places in England got those.

If it is like the gasoline engines, try to get your hands on the intake system, like the throttle body or Wax Idle solenoid. Those parts are not sold here anymore - even aftermarket places like Rockauto.com do not sell them.

+1 to getting hold of a spare intake system. I've got a spare for my truck and have had to pull parts from it twice over the last few years. I'm not sure about that engine since we couldn't get it here, but it would be a good idea to park back a spare alternator, power steering pump, and AC compressor.

Definitely research each part before paying for overseas shipping!

Thank you all, will definitely look up those parts!

What about the suspension? Any parts worth stocking up (bushings, ball joints, etc)?

Though maybe harder to get in your particular area, suspension components for these trucks will still be easy to find for a good while yet since so many were produced around the world. I personally wouldn't bother buying those until you need them, particularly since you've already done some of the bushings.
