Default 1997 ka24e ignition timing

I cannot for the life of me find in the FSM the procedure for checking ignition timing. Just replaced timing chain etc. and need to check my timing. Truck seems to run fine but want to make sure its not off. I have borrowed a timing light and now just need to know what mark at what RPM and if I need to unplug the throttle position sensor or anything like that. Thanks for any help!

<edit> Ok, I finally looked in the index and found the procedure. From my understanding I do need to unhook the throttle position sensor... is that only when adjusting or when also checking the timing? Thx again.

unplug the TPS, you want the 4th mark from the left (-5,0, 5,10)

In the 97 Factory Service manual, section EC page 28

unplug TPS when checking

FSM for the 96-97 doesn't mention disconnecting the TPS to set the timing.

On pg EC-29 it does say to actually. Im using the 1997 FSM posted up here http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Hardbody/1997_D21_Truck/

So, unplug both connectors on the tps or just the one on the right?

Damn sure does, never saw it in the small print there. The earlier models have that step isolated. My bad

Actually ... go a page or two earlier (EF & EC-190 in my printed 1990 FSM; EC-29 is for the VG30E and not the KA24E).

According to the flow chart, from "Inspection Start", nothing's to be disconnected before checking the timing. Only if there's a no-good situation do you get to that stage.
