Default Should I buy this?

I saw a listing for a(nother) hardbody yesterday that has been in a wreck 2 years ago and has been sitting since. The guy says the engine still ran after, frame isn't bent, title is clean. It has 235,000 miles and is pretty rust free, he wants $800 for it.

It's obviously going to need a new radiator support, fenders, hood, grille, bumper and at least tie rods, but my local U-Pull-It has a few pathfinders and hardbody's in stock so those shouldn't be too hard to get, and I'm just looking to fix it up as a project, I'm not going to be taking it to any repair shops for the damages.

800 is too much IMO. If you look at it you need to look at door fitment, roof wrinkles, and back of cab to bed fitment.

Its obvious that the frame is bent, but to what extent. It could be bent as far back as the bed.

I just realized I forgot to add a picture, I don't really see any issues with the fitment of anything from the pictures but maybe it's just an untrained eye. The guy said that he was going to fix it but now he's moving, but I know you can't always trust what people say.
Edit: I'm also definitely not gonna pay $800 for it, maybe $600.

You might want to check with DMV to make sure it still has a clean title. If he had full coverage with that wreck, the insurance company has totaled the truck.

This is a parts truck. The cost to straighten/replace what's damaged will be more than the truck is worth. I think I see some rust, frame shops won't work on rusted vehicles because of the liability. Be patient and wait for a better one to come along.

Yeah I'm gonna make sure that it doesn't have a salvage title (even though I can still register and drive a salvage title) if I do end up going down there and checking it out, I'm not going to be bringing it to a body shop or anything to have the damage repaired, I'm just trying to see if anyone thinks it'd be worthwhile to have as a project truck to repair with junkyard parts and eventually turn it into something cool. He says that he had frame rust repaired on it, and it has way less rust on the body than my current d21 has.

I agree with the other guys. Eight hundred is too much, and I can almost guarantee the frame IS bent. Sure...they can use the laser machine and straighten it, but that's going to cost you at least that much.

Remember...this thing has to be towed wherever it is going. IMHO this is strictly a PARTS truck. But...the motor already has over 200,000 miles on it, so pulling it out and dropping it into another truck isn't worth it. You are looking at the value of the bed, the tailgate, those custom rear lights, and SOME parts off the engine. Maybe the seats and interior parts, the computer. But the truck itself is just too far gone to do a restore.

If it had exceptionally LOW miles, like say from 80-110 K miles, then it might be worth it to restore. But you are looking at a truck that took a dead center front end hit and already had 235,000 miles on it when it did. Here in WA state if you called the wrecking yard, they would give you no more than $250 for it. Most wrecking yards today pay for wrecks by the pound. They look up the weight when you call them. They hit their little calculator, they give you a price. And in reality...that is ALL this truck is worth.

The only way to get a bit more money is to strip the good parts off it and THEN call the wrecking yard. But this truck in its present state is worth an absolute maximum of $400 and not a penny more....for PARTS. And that only works if you have a matching truck. If I had a matching truck and a place to store this wrecked truck...I would offer the guy $300 and only if there was some kind of title on it. Then you take it home, strip everything good out of it for your OTHER truck...and THEN call the wrecking yard and have them take it away for about 200-250. I would offer this guy 300 like I said, and if he says no...just move on and let it continue to be HIS problem. At some point, he will end up calling the wrecking yard.

If no pictures, it doesn't exist. :-)

Update: They now exist, for me at least. I use the add-on "Facebook Container" to limit FB's spyware tracking. Guess what -- the pictures above have FB spyware tracking! (So I couldn't see them) :-{

Ever notice that if you look at something at Amazon, the same commercials for similar stuff pop up on you wherever you go on the internet that has ads?

Welcome to the 21st century. To avoid this, you use a VPN.

All Nissan owners are welcome to show up at our totally crazy event. I had to change things more than once, but we reached the final version. There just wasn't enough interest in D.B. Cooper. 50th anniversary of the hijacking or not. Aliens and UFO's are much bigger news this year.

Or, for years, have used ad blockers, so rarely ever see them ...
