dvdswan nailed it.

I have a HG46 with limited slip diff from a 94 Pathfinder SE. Disc brakes. It is currently behind a 5.3L Chevy v8. The Nissan axles are stronger than any 8.8 IMHO. I cut off the coil buckets and link mounts and welded spring perches on mine in order to swap the complete axle from a C200

You could get away with swapping the guts into your H233B housing, though. There's just the parking brake thing to work around. The truck is side pull and the cable won't connect to the drum in hat setup that the Pathy uses. Pathy is center pull.

I had mine rigged up, but mud kept killing my park brakes, so I eventually just gutted them.

Since I am a newbie, this is what I needed to know. It definitely sounds like the stock axle will stand up to a moderate addition of HP

Could you please elaborate on this? Are you referring to swapping the stock drum axle shafts with the disc brake axle shafts out of the Pathfinder?

This definitely sounds like the way to go in order to get disc brakes and not have the parking brake issue.

I have some fab experience as I built a 68 Bronco from the ground up, so I am familiar with welding on spring perches.

Here is where my newbieness shows. Instead of cutting off the coil buckets and link mounts, can you convert the rear to link and coilovers? Or would you not want to do that?

Look at your door sticker or engine compartment pass. side fender wall, there will be a plate riveted to it. It will state your axle code. i.e. HG46 is a H233b with 4.63:1 ratio. CA43 is a C200 with a 4.325:1 ratio. and HF37 is a H190 with a 3.7:1 ratio.

https://www.nissan4wheelers.com/topi...xles-do-i-have

H190 - small 3rd member type axle found in 2wd's only (excluding Desert Runners, Xterras, pathfinders)
C200 - removable rear diff cover, 8 bolts. Found in all Nissans (yes, even a few early 2wd Pathfinders)
H233B - large 3rd member type axle found in most V6 and a few 4 banger 4x4's, Desert Runners, and 2wd Pathy's and 2wd Xterra V6's.

Thanks. My Door Door sticker is NO BUENO. All of the print has faded out of existence. I'll have to check the fender wall. Hopefully it's still there. The truck had PS damage that had been repaired before I got it.

Older trucks have that info on the inner fender of the engine bay.

I've looked all over the engine bay for it. No luck. Probably the H190. Non removable cover on a 2wd

Usually top left under the passenger side corner. Metal tag.
