Default All power cuts out when starter is engaged

I've been searching this forum for hours, did not come up with anything pertaining my issue.

When the key is turned to ACC everything lights and powers up. Soon as I click the key up another position to engage the starter there's a single click and all power cuts out.

Battery shows 12.3 and so does fusible links when this happens. Give it some time all power is restored but every time after when the starter is engaged all power will cut out again.

Would it cause some sort of relay to cut all power? Absolutely nothing works but after sitting a while all is fine again. Everything works as normal until trying to start the truck.

I'm betting the battery is toast. It may have voltage but cannot supply the amps needed to spin the starter.

Many vehicles will cut power to accessories and lights to allow the starter to get full amps. A lot of modern vehicles do not do this.

I will get a new battery tomorrow. Appreciate the insight.

Have your local shop do a test on it. They can do a bench test and see what it's actually giving out.

You can also always try to jump the truck. If it all good with a jump battery is bad. Just be sure to connect the cables in the right polarity as to no zap anything.

Can you hear the solenoid pop out or anything or just the relay clicking?

I'll hear a single relay click then lights out.

Take the battery to any local Autoparts store and have them test it. They should have a load tester... I would suspect you have a dead cell or two. If it tests bad, get a new one. Watch which side the leads are on...

Probably at least as bad as a Jeep so worse than a cow.

This truck is new to me, previous owner changed the ground clamp. Looked like it was secure but noticed power cut back in soon as I accidentally touched it. Redid it and all it well now! Something so simple I never thought to check.

Hell yeah! Glad you found the source! No ground == no current flow!
