I went to take the truck to a shop to install window tint. It’s a 1993 D21 standard cab. The truck has lived in Texas all of its life. How in the world it has never had tint installed before is beyond me.
It’s a 3 piece with a middle slider. The guy at the tint shop told me he couldn’t tint the middle window because it is plastic. Is this how it came from the factory? Or did someone replace a glass one with a plastic one somewhere along the line? Has anyone else came across this before and what did you do about tint, since apparently tint won’t stick to plastic? Also there is no latch to lock the slider. Is this something that you can buy a replacement for. I checked rock auto and around the web but haven’t found anything. I’m not really sure what the latch is supposed to look like or how it is attached to the window. |

It was probably busted at one point... easy way to get in for theft... and replaced with plastic.
Call a glass shop and price getting the plastic replaced? Have you checked the junkyards in your area?

I have checked the junk yards around me. Unfortunately there are only a few hard bodies around and they have been picked clean. I’m thinking a glass shop is probably my best best. I can use the plastic one as a template but I’m still not sure what to do about the latch.

Maybe a latch of some type from this generous selection to secure the middle plastic "window". Which by the way, isn't from the factory. My 3 piece rear slider is original to my truck and in no way shaper form is any of the 3 pieces plastic. All glass. If you click on the photo in my signature. You can see the rear slider close up.

I was able to find a single piece rear window at a salvage yard a couple of hours away. I have a 93 single cab and it came out of a 93 king cab but I assume it will fit?
It was easier than I thought it would be to get it out. |

Good. As long as the size is the same, should not be a problem. Take measurements before you go... or take the plastic one with you, to match up. Let us know how it fits...
