Hey there everybody. Just purchased a 1996 SE, 4x4 in red. My intent is to fix a few flaws and use it as a weekend vehicle and home depot truck. It has low mileage -108k, love how that is "low" these days.
A few gremlins have surfaced already - wouldn't crank on day one after making the 1.5 hour journey home. Alternator and battery check out fine. Maybe starter beginning to fail? Day 2 - power window went down just fine, but will not go up now. Switch and motor seem to operate fine. I guess these are to be expected. Otherwise, it runs and drives perfectly and I am happy to have it in my garage and to be part of this community. Last edited by 89'HBV6; 12-06-2021 at 05:43 PM. |

Check the clutch pedal…. There is a little rubber plug that falls out. When that happens, the clutch safe switch will not be pressed….. and it will not start.

Exactly! This happened to me. I ended up slightly bending the metal bracket so that it just contacts the switch when the pedal is fully depressed. Been working great for over a year now.

The part number for that little plug is Dorman 74015. It is under 6 dollars if you have Amazon Prime. The pack comes with two types….a hard plastic one and a soft rubber one. The rubber one fits the brake, cruise cut-out and clutch switches.
