Default Bad clock spring, anyone know how to fix it?

I am fixing up a 1997 Hardbody as a daily driver and the clock spring in the steering column is shot so I have no horn or airbag. I know I can bypass the horn and add a button on the dash, but I hate the look of that and having the button mounted on the wheel is much nicer when you need to honk in a hurry at some moron running you off the road. I also want my airbag working as this is a daily driver and I do a lot of driving so safety is a factor. I have looked all over google and see that those clock springs are long since out of production so the chances of finding a new one are basically zero. I checked wrecking yards in my area and drove 120 miles to the only yard in my state that had one only to find that it was broken. Does anyone know if there's a clockspring for another nissan model that will work, or have any ideas of how I could fabricate something to take the place of the clock spring? Surely someone online has come up with a solution other than a trashy looking button on the dash?

It's usually called the junkyard. Hit up the ones in your area yet?

Probably at least as bad as a Jeep so worse than a cow.

Check with david29, he might have some... if he hasn't got rid of the inventory yet.

Hi Crawfish,
On the question of the airbag, you might actually be better off without it. Would you trust your life to a 25-year-old airbag? I have a 97 and I've actually considered disconnecting the thing until I can afford to have a new one installed. The damn thing might blow up in your face anyway. Maybe a button on the dashboard might serve for the horn, at least for now. Your best alternative all around is what others have suggested. Start hitting up the wrecking yards, or looking on Craigslist for a similar truck that is being parted out.

looks like there is 3 different ones for a 97, if you want to send me the last 8 digits of your vin, I can at least give you the correct part number .. if that helps, or see if the part number is on your clock spring.. should start with a 25554-?????

I disagree, respectfully.

I can remember watching a 60 Minutes episode on airbags after a 30 year old airbag saved someone's life. I'd rather have an air bag that might not not work.

Finding the parts: your best bet is probably finding someone parting out their truck. People don't usually list items like that because most people don't need those replacement parts. You will have to ask the sellers.

Okay. You convinced me. The airbag in my truck stays.

I got my clock spring from david29. Message him. Hopefully he still has some left. Works perfectly after I installed it.
