For the record, my own 1998 Frontier has run a rebuilt CarQuest starter since about 2005, and a rebuilt lifetime O'Reilly alternator since about 2010, with no issues.

I don't think there's supposed to be a tear, but aren't master cylinder caps vented anyway???? So I wouldn't worry about it.
