Coolant ?'s

Does my old HB care what coolant I run? I have some pink Toyota/Lexus premix here and what looks loke Italian dressing flowing threw they system now. Can I run this or nah? If not, is there something specific for our old trucks I should use or will the generic 50/50 stuff work?

I just run the generic green 50/50 mix in mine. I wouldn't put the Toyota stuff in there IMO, mixing certain types can cause that weird gelling problem. I gave all my Toyota pink coolant to the guy that bought my Yaris.

No need to buy anything other than the cheap green stuff. FWIW, mixing green antifreeze with the Toyota red/pink coolant won't cause it to gel, you'll just have this ugly brown antifreeze. It's still not good practice, though.

Just run ol'school coolant. Green is good for our trucks...

But do use distilled water for the other half of the fill.

Thanks guys. I wasn't planning on mixing the pink with green fluids. I am going to flush and refill the whole system. I already have the distilled water, I was just wondering if the Pink Toyota stuff will damage anything in my Z24

It won't damage anything, there's just no need to spend the extra money.

PS, if you have a Toyota you don't need to buy the actual Toyota branded antifreeze, either. You can buy the concentrated stuff online for less money. Walmart also sells zerex asian formula which will work just fine. I use the red stuff in my Camry and the inside of the cooling system still looked brand new last time I changed the water pump (235k, at 242k now).

The thing is... I already have the Toyota stuff. Left over. I bought 2 extra bottles when I flushed my Corolla last year. I would be spending "extra" money if I bought the 50/50 stuff at this point. I want to use the
"old" stuff up first. It's just been sitting inside my shed, getting moved around, taking up space.

It's not the "toyota" brand of fluid, just "Toyota/Lexus" specific blend of Prestone.

I've been running the regular green stuff in my 20+ year old Toyota, without any problems.

Ah, I gotcha. It won't hurt anything, just flush all the old stuff out first.
