Carb swap,distributor swap

My throttle body on my '86-1/2 4x4 Hardbody truck [z24i] is dead and hits a wall at about 2500-3000 RPM. I got a carb for a z24,but am worried that the ignition will be a problem with no vacuum advance and all of the sensors screwing with the ecm. I read somewhere that you can change the part that meets the oil pump to the earlier dist and have the older style dist work. Any help will be welcome.

That sounds about right, but you'd probably want to swing over and talk to the guys in the ratsun forum (https://ratsun.net/) if you are considering that. They do this stuff more often than we do here.

Also try here. lots of info from people who are just crazy about the Z24 engines.

2500-3000RPM is limp mode. Any codes?

The 86.5 is pretty dumb. Takes a good bit to make it unhappy as it doesn't really know or care.

I made an adaptor from a piece of 1/2" aluminum with a venturi coming out of the carb side. The biggest drill I had was 1-3/8,so I made the holes vary from 1-1/2 to 1-3/8 and 1-5/8 to 1-1/2". I countersunk the holes to accept large taper head screws and took out the studs that held the throttle body on. I will have to figure out what resistors,if any will fool the computer into allowing it to run right. I am using a carb that is supposed to fit a Nissan Bluebird and hardbody with z24.

To run a carb you have to advance timing about 8 degrees to fool the ecm into thinking it is OK.

Everything okay?

Thanks,I'll try that,if it ever stops raining here. I've read that using a resistor to fool the ECM into thinking that conditions are right for running will work. I also read that an older style distributor will fit by changing the adaptor [?] that attaches to the oil pump. Maybe someone who struggled through this problem will chime in.:help:

I got the carb on,made an adaptor from a small steel angle for the throttle. The motor runs well and revs well and keeps the timing curve correctly, which might change with use. I had to buy a K&N style air filter as a 3-1/16" universal filter hasn't been found. I do have my throttle body, external fuel pump and pressure regulator if anybody wants it. PM me with an offer. I live in a rural County in which we don't have inspections,so that is't a problem I'll have.
