Default Make a z24 faster?

So I'm selling a car I have pretty soon, maybe get about $3,000 dollars or so, so lets see.
I want to pay a friend of mine to help me do a body drop, and basically the rest I wanna use to make the z24 2.4L engine a little faster. What are some things people have done to speed it up? Any turbo kits or something like that?
I was thinking about doing a complete swap to a v8 305 my dad has, but I'm not sure if I want to. Any little things will help.
By the way, the engine is completely stock, all emissions/ air filter etc.
Here's a picture of the engine, how it looks now.

Thanks guys

If no smog, it depends what route you wanna go.
N/A
Side or downdraft weber
Cam
Header/exhaust
Higher compression (mill the head)

If you are looking for more power, you could boost the motor.
I've been wanting to look into if a z24i or a ka intake would bolt up to convert to fuel injection, you would be able to tune it with a rising rate regulator and a safc, but that way is frowned upon by many.

You'd need a turbo manifold (exhaust side) intercooler piping, intercooler, blow of valve, wastegate (if turbo isn't internally wastegated), and a turbo. As well as a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and a safc.

I must say, that engine/bay is damn clean!

Howcome?
A T28 would be fine on 8 lbs...
It's a little small but would be ok, much more and it would be huffing hot air.

Maybe even one of those ebay $125 turbos. I know everyone says "JUNK!", but I've got a friend, whos big into volvos and he loves these turbos, he runs them around 30psi on a stock bottom end.

He says make sure you run the proper oil restrictor and change the seals at about 5K miles and they are good to go.
