Default SR20DET information

Since its a common question and I shouldn't trust other forums to hold information plus they are slow as crap with all the adds (seen a few just go poof and no warning, really bad when you had something you knew was there but no longer on the net).

I would fill this up right away but since I have not really looked for information in years its probably outdated and might not be current. When I find useful information I will cut and paste it here (I would will add the link but try not to post the link only). This is for everyone, if you stumble across something that might help go for it. If you have a question, you might ask it in the question thread but if its something we all might need to know the answer may appear here. If the question is specific to your build then someone might answer it there.

Things that will help some would be:

1. The types of SR20DET's that were made, S13-S15

Then for the ones that have actually jumped off that cliff:
1. Where to source parts from
2. What parts are the same for the USA SR20DE that was came in the front wheel drive sentras
3. Maybe tips and pointers for others after you have an oops.
4. Parts that you need to look at carefully (example: oil pan not dented)

The first tip I have is be careful when changing your thermostat, this part does not take stress too well and will snap the thermostat housing in a heart beat. My thermostat moved and slipped out of the grove the block has for it, when I started to tighten the bolts I cracked the housing (this was using a socket with a screw driver handle, not a socket wrench where you will have more force to break something).

I got my replacement from FRsport.com, I did not see any others on the net.

I do wonder how many people here have an SR20DET in running form, I see many start but not many finish, I don't want to clog this thread up with off the wall questions and answers so I might start a new thread for this.

Stock boost: 7 psi
Throttle body bore: 60mm

High Port Head

S14 changes:

Horsepower: 220hp at 6000rpm
Torque: 203 ft/lbs at 4800rpm
Turbo: T28
Low Port Head

S15 changes:

Horsepower: 250hp at 6000rpm
Transmission: 6 Speed, Close Ratio
Injector size: 480cc/min
Turbo: Upgraded T28

Ignitor Chip - 96 - Infiniti Q-45
Throttle Body - 91-98 - 240SX DOHC

Spark Plugs - 92-99 - Sentra/200SX SE-R
MAFS(will need plug) - 89-90 - 240sx 12 valve

Figured I was slacking and should post this info as well, some of this is threads on other forums but should give helpful information:

The S15 oil bar mod (this is the only time I have heard this so I will have to research this as well) from a post on nissan road racing forum:

"I would agree with Tower that it's a good time to throw in some ACL bearings as a precaution. You may also consider a mod less thought of and upgrade your oil spray bars to the S15 version (also in one of the newer SE-R VSpec Sentras). Higher pressure and more oil on the cams. It made a big difference for me and was only around $75 from the dealer."

At one time, I was using JARCO http://www.jarcoinc.com/ for most of my parts on my S-13 build however they don't seem to be stocking much for Nissan at this time. Ya might give them a call to see if they can help you with any parts you need.
I sold the car a few years back, but here are my recommendations :
1- listen to the engine for any knock or pre-detonation and don't confuse the tapping of the injectors for either of these noises.
2- make sure you have fresh oil in the engine and transmission
3- flush the coolant system
4- replace the water pump if it's not already been done
5- replace the exhaust and turbo gaskets if they've not already been replaced.
6- check the turbo for any play and fix if you have more than 1mm or so play on the axle.

Well I found another performance item for the SR20, I don't know enough about it at this moment but figured I would share the wealth (most probably know already though)

The most recent (I found) and very costly power upgrade to the RWD SR20DET. This upgrade puts I think the FWD head on the RWD motor. Reason...because the FWD head flows better stock than a RWD head ported and polished and flows almost twice as much as a stock RWD head.

If you do a google search for RWD SR20DET VE swap it will have quite a few build threads from various forums, I would caution any information taken from the internet though.
