OK, I bought this pickup like this. It will not shift into reverse. All other gears work fine.
The young man I bought it from took a working transmission out of another pickup and put it in this one. When he was through this transmission wouldn't shift into reverse either. I know, just after the trans swap, he didn't have the clutch adjusted properly. I could tell when I first looked at it after he became discouraged. It wasn't shifting right. I bought it CHEAP. After I bought it and drove it home I adjusted the clutch and now it shifts fine in all gears except reverse. What I'm wondering is if there is something I'm missing that would keep this trans. from shifting or is this one just toast too. Thanks guys Last edited by shadetreeguy; 09-20-2016 at 02:33 PM. |

I'm not sure if your questions have been answered elsewhere but a buddy of mine is helping me fix my problem also, check fluid first, if it's black, replace it asap, make sure only genuine G4 is used. Next, check for leaks, slave, master and damper, ( if no visible signs of leaks, there still could actually be an issue with one or the other.) Next, check your transmission, clutch and neutral switches to ensure they are not fried. This is where I'm at on my 89 Hardbody, hope this helps
