Tonka,
Your problem appears to be that your +12 wiring, that should have the fusible links, is not connected to the battery. It appears that the high amperage cable(that goes to the starter) is the only one connected.
You should download the factory service manual (JP2Code has them in his signature) and trace the wiring so you can identify which wires go where and connect them properly to where they belong. From what I can tell, you have a bit of work in your future if you want to put this together and make everything work correctly.

The cover has the nissan logo and a number 40 on it and some yellow paint pen on it like it was a junkyard item

The ecu could be laying in the bed of the truck and it wouldn't cause the issues with the lights and all that you describe in your first post. You need to look at how the fusible links are connected to the battery. There is only one wire visibly connected to the battery. We're not going to get closer to solving this problem until we know where the fusible links are at now and what they are connected to. It sounds and looks like they're not connected at all, which would cause the problem you've described. I'm not sure how I can be more clear about the need to look at this.

Check up under your dash and replace the starter motor relay, it's above the fuse panel underneath the dash. Blue relay, powers up the ignition and dash cluster lights. There's only 2 or 3 blue relays above the fuse panel, I don't remember exactly which relay, replace both of them with known good relays, it will fix your problem I promise.
