Default 87 VG30I 3spd auto moves out of park no matter what.

I just realized that my transmission floor shifter will move out of park into any gear NEUTRAL also with the key off and then ignition locked.. dont have to depress brake or anything. It will just move out of park whenever. And i dont have my Parking brake working right for hills yet.

I don't recall on my former 87 having to step on the brake to get the shifter out of Park, you do have to press the button in though.

This is when the key is out in the "Locked position" (push button (on ignition) and turn one more click counter clockwise) let off button (on ignition) pull key out.. steering can now lock.. but the shifter can still move out of park (Must press button on shifter though).. this cant be normal is it? Ive never noticed having to press brake to move out of park but this was while it was running which i found normal..

My 87 king cab was an auto when I got it. It did the same thing. The later models had the safety feature of pressing the brake first or is it turning the key frees up the shifter to move. I can’t remember which.

I agree that it was later model's where you had to step on the brake.

My 87 shifter can move to any position without pressing brake and with the key off, locked, and out.
