Default So it begins....1985 Nissan 720

Just picked up my new old ride...1985 Nissan 720. Picked up it from the original owner so fairly well kept. I plan on keeping it clean and fairly stock. First plan of attack is wet sanding the wheels to clean them up. I do not think they have ever been washed!! Suggestions on polishing out the wheels? Good to be part of this forum and I look forward to participating!

The big question is if the coating is still on the rims, many older wheels this has fallen off or chipping do to time and sun. What did soap and water do for them? A majority of rims come with some form of clear coat to protect the finish but does have a bit of a "dulling" effect. True polished rims get dirty in a couple of days without the coating.

The clear coating is flaking off all over. I washed them and they still look terrible...looks like brake dust ingrained in the metal of the wheel. I also used wheel cleaner too and a vinyl brush with no change. What do you suggest? Thanks.

aircraft remover/sand/buff/repolish (or paint) then a new cc PITA but it works. once the initial cc starts coming off you will never keep up with it.

Thanks! I paid $925 for it and it came with some extra parts and records. Drives really good and the interior is nice!
