Default cracking sound when steering is at full lock

the 4x4s turning radius isn't great to start with but when I turn to full lock sounds like its binding or a loud popping/ cracking sound. I changed out the control arms and I have the rough country nitro 2.0 shocks. they where advertised to work with trucks with a 3ich lift so their a little taller and wider than stock. also would I be able to get away with running standard shocks with 3in lift?

The terrible noise is probably the steering stops .. there are little caps on the knuckle that ride on a curved piece on the control arm when the steering is at full lock.. they are supposed to have a plastic cap i believe and when they no longer are on there they make one hell of a noise..

As for shocks you could run the factory 2wd shocks since they are a little longer

Put grease on the stops as noted above.

Early trucks did not have the plastic caps on the steering stops, my former 87 did not have them, I just put grease on the head of the stops and the metal channel on the control arm.

You can add the plastic caps if yours does not have them, I would still use grease,

Normally you would hear the noise when at a full lock turn going up or down an incline.

Dude!!! Been wondering what that sound was. Can confirm my truck does not have plastic stops. Now to grease them.

What is the best to use specifically?

Thick grease, I use wheel bearing grease, put some on the stops and the curved metal channel the stops hit.

There are 2 steering stops per front wheel

the noise is identical to a dried out ford F150 ball joint LOL

its a metal on metal sound that appears to be quite gruesome. want new ones? http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/...50&postcount=6

A creaking noise when not moving, say when you push down on the front end may be the control arm bushings needing some grease.
