Default Body/bed swap -- 88 to 95?

I have a 95 standard cab 4cyl automatic which runs very well but almost all of my body panels and bumpers are beat up, and the bed is rusted out really bad. There is a guy near me on Craiglist selling an 88 manual 4-cyl as a "roller" (engine and transmission out, but most of the rest of it is still there). I haven't seen it in person yet, but from the pics it looks a lot better than mine.

Question -- if I bought his roller, could I just pull all the good parts and panels of the 88 (bed, doors, hood, and bumpers) and put them on my 95 as a direct bolt-in swap, no mods required? The color isn't even close to matching, but who cares, right?

Thanks,

JH

Hi Jph,
Yes the D21 body panels can be swapped around to your hearts content. You could just swap the whole cab from one chassis to the other, or just the panels you need.

Thumbs up

Based on the truck I see in your profile pic, I'm guessing you would know!

Thanks very much.

HAha.
Yes, I have newer pathfinder doors, 95/97 4x4 front fenders, along with the pathfinder grille and headlights while the cab and bed are still original from 86, pretty much the panels that can unbolt and be swapped for better parts have been.

Have fun

Just one more question: how hard is it to do? I've asked about swapping beds before, so I understand that's only 6 bolts and a few wires/screws, and I assume the doors must not be too tough, but what about those front side panels? We talking 15 minutes to take out a few screws, or 3 hours of breaking welds and such?

Unless there was some sort of screwed up repair previously, it will be all bolts/screws. Probably take longer than 15 minutes but it all swaps.

Thanks for the replies and advice - Iím picking it up this Saturday. Compared to my current bed, this is so clean I canít believe it. A little rust on the outside drivers wheel well, but nearly perfect where it counts. Thx

Hi Jph,
That my friend is a nice find. Post some pics of the progress as you go. It will probably help many people in the future since photbucket screwed up almost all pictures on the forum.

What about the interior? Is the dash also interchangeable from an 88 to a 95? I know the shape of the gauge cluster has changed over time ó but Iím just saying if I pulled the whole entire dash could I trade them out?
