If the driveshaft is spinning but not the CV's the hubs are not going to be the problem. They may be gritty and need to be cleaned but it sounds to me like something worse going on here.

I would pull the differential cover at this point and have a look at what's going on inside the front differential while the driveshaft spins. You may have a broken ring gear

Weird. Id still put it into 2wd and lift one front wheel and spin it by hand with the hubs locked. If the drive shaft to the T-case spins you are probably OK. Id do the same on the other side. If both spin the center shaft smoothly but neither CV spins in 4wd and 4 wheels off the ground with the center shaft spinning would make me scratch my head and look at the diff. At this point Id just make sure the CVs spin. Easy enough to unlock the hubs and lift the rear off the ground and put it into 4wd. Chock it so it doesnt roll but you should be able to see the CVs spin easily. Maybe wrap them in yellow electrical tape like a candy cane to make it easy to see if its spinning.

That doesn't sound right to me at all, if the CV's were under enough tension to not spin with the driveshaft than it should have spun the tire aswell. if the hubs were disengaged the CV's should have spun irregardless

You're not painting a clear picture for us. Are both sides off the ground?
When the driver side is not spinning, is the passenger side spinning? Because that would explain why one is and one isn't.

These trucks are equipped with open diffs. Meaning only one tire will turn unless under a load.
