Well, I'm honestly just trying to patch it long enough for me to pass inspection and buy a solid axle

Made some headway after, Discovered my idler arm was VERY bent, haha. I did not even notice until the center link wouldn't line up. So, luckily I had a spare just lying around for trail parts. The bolts I had bought were too short though so after a trip to the hardware store tomorrow morning I should have this on, gonna need to drill a hole into the hardware though to fit some cotter pins.

I finished this up today, have no idea what the outcome of this will be but if it stops blowing center links for a few months i'll be happy. Drilling holes in that grade 8 hardware to fit cotter pins was a nightmare but it's done now.
Drivers side:

Passenger side with new idler arm:

I drove it around the block a couple times, feels okay, at least it's not super sloppy anymore but it takes a little more effort for the wheels to return to center around a turn. I guess i'll take this wheeling soon and keep a close watch on it.

Update, i've used this quite a bit now to no problems. The only thing is to be very precise about where you locate cotter pins, and be sure to use red loctite. With both tires off the ground tighten the bolts up and then cycle the steering wheel 3-4 times each way, place the cotter pins in then allow the loctite to set for 24 hours. at least it allowed me to remove the weak rod end inside the drag link.

I think I'd rather just throw a few hundred bucks at it, lol.

I've gone through 3 oem centerlinks though, the problem was not solving itself on heavy tires, and no point in buying a $400-$700 grassroots or calmini steering kit when i'll be doing solid axles in a year

True enough. I'm going to install "The Articulator" kit from 4x4parts so I'll be using whatever steering upgrade I decide to go with for a long time.

It's just the weight of big tires and such, I figured i'd try this and so far so good. Hopefully someone who's as broke as me can use my example someday down the road for a temporary fix.

I had to eventually box in the idler arm system to eliminate slop from the single bolt design, details in my build thread.
