LM7 is a truck/SUV version of the 5.3L That's what I have in mine, and so does DVDSwan. We are both running 4L60E. The difference is that we are both 4x4, and didn't try to keep ours low. In fact, mine has body lift, which I cherish when it comes time to remove the trans.

Dave kept the stock firewall. I think he kept the trans tunnel the same. You'd have to check.
Mine has the Silverado firewall and a modded trans tunnel to mate up with it. That moves the engine back. (My build thread is in my sig. Might give you some useful insight.) I did that because it gave me room for the radiator, clearance for the exhaust, and made teh stock oil pan clear my front axle (dana44)

Dave used different accessory mounts in front to make the overall length shorter. He used a lower intake to get the intake under the hood.

Mine has body lift and a hood scoop to make all the LM7 parts fit.

I have a built up 4L60E that hits as hard as Kimbo Slice when you get on it. (Stock 5.3 LM7) I used upgraded parts throughout, such as transgo separator plate, Torlon balls, Sonnax pinless accumulator pistons, larger (billet) 4th piston/cover, fixall TCC valve, Sonnax Smart Shell, and ALTO carbon clutches and band.
IMHO, a well built 4L60E is plenty for a 5.3 unless you build it up over 400HP or so. A 4L80 is much heavier, needs more room, and needs a different TCM.

Paid $100 for those turbine wheels with a set of 31's on them, tonight I sold the 31's for $100. So i'm only into the wheels for about 3 cans of spray paint and $30 lug nuts, plus about 8 hours of sanding, Can't really complain.. Except the lugnuts still aren't %$*&#$@ here!

Drove it monday for the first time. Slid past the gas station entrance on damp roads. Installed brand new tires today. Whole new truck now.

Changed out my front U-joints yesterday, they were still functional but have been in there for a year now and I don't want to have to change one when the snow hits full force.

Today changed out the differential fluid, looked good considering the abuse and water I put it through

as into the carrier or into the truck?

the answer to both is brute strength and ignorance but in reality a helper is almost paramount. unless you have tons of lift stuff. a motorcycle jack does wonders here.
