how about a lasermax laser and a 25 round butler creek mag for the Ruger 10/22 for 37 bucks and 9.99 for shipping?

https://www.cdnnsports.com/lasermax-...l#.Wjs6SidOmEd

i snagged one. the laser alone is worth 100 bucks.

Since I am getting closer to purchasing a firearm I have been starting to look at safes. The segment of the safe market for gun owners is unreal. For every “uncrackable” safe made there seems to be four YouTube videos on how easy they are to get into. Then they say just get a security cabinet and be done with it, just as effective but not as intimidating.

The industry standard rating system for this is all messed up. I have a home security alarm, I just need a safe to keep punks out for 10 min until the cops show up. Due to the “unregulated/regulated” standards of Residental Security Containers (RSC) you could buy a safe a 10 year old could find a way in at 5 min 1 sec or find a bargain safe that would take a pro 10-15 minutes to crack, all while paying the same price.

The only regulated standards start with the TL listed safes and anything large enough to hold a long gun is usually $4k and up. Unless you really start to whip out the $$$ this rating only applies to the front door. If you ask me this is like locking your front door with 15 deadbolts and a 4 inch thick steal door and leave the back door wide open. If they use a $10 dollar cutting wheel from harbor freight; cut the back, removed the contents and left before the cops showed up its pointless. Then I have seen where imported safes with the TL rating failed with unskilled people and various tools. It does seem that a US made safe with a rating is more likely to withstand the average punk without a clue.

I understand your bargain safes just probably don’t want to pay to be tested but it would be really helpful if some rating system would apply to see if it would take 5 minutes for your unskilled burgalar or 50 minutes for a pro and the company just didn’t want to pay to be rated at a higher level.

(Just to clarify “bargain safe” means its a deal, paying the cost of an RSC but getting a safe that could withstand the TL-30 6x6 testing.)

I doubt any fix will come in my lifetime but it would be nice if the U.L. would test RSC safes and give more of a rating than yep it passed. At least give a clue, maybe have a rating system like RSC 45 (45 min) so you don’t ruin the TL ratings required for banks and other insurable interest.

im a liberty fan but that more price driven than anything.

a friend and i had a conversation about safes and quality and he made a great point. there are three types of burgulars. 1: smash and grab. a locked door will stop them. 2: semi determined. those will bust out a window and rummage through a house but just about any safe will stop them. 3. determined. nothing is going to stop them short of an actual legitimate built in vault. and even then it might not stop them.

since i cant really afford to stop number 3, ill settle for number 1 and 2 with a decent safe. im more interested in the fire protection for documents, external hard drives and other things.

And this is why I avoid gun shops. Went into the one that my girlfriend's family owns after work and came out with an AK. $600 for a N-PAP with wood furniture, used and the last owner wasnt hot on cleaning. Came with a rather nice bag with cut foam, 6 30rnd P-Mags, a 30rnd Promag and a some other 30rnd name brand polymer mag as well as a midwest industries side rail optics mount. Sadly the optic from my Saiga wont grab the midwest industries mount firmly. The mount is too narrow.

The AK family. Left to right; 1) Saiga 7.62x39 with Tapco G2 FCG, some cheap red dot, full Zhukov furniture, Widwest Industries mount and Korean 20 round tanker mags. 2) Saiga 20ga with Tapco FCG, MOE stock and grip, full CSS reliability kit plus more gunsmithing and SGM Tactical choke. 3) DDI-12 with MOE stock (AR stocks suck on AKs), ProMag 10 round mags and GK-01 brake. 4) The new haul, a CAI N-PAP with Tapco brake and P-Mags. Have not shot it yet.

And yes, that's a prototype brake I 3D printed on the couch.

Not sure if this was asked earlier, if so I do not remember.

This might be a bag of worms like automatic Vs manual transmissions but I hope not. If the cost was the same which would you pick, M-Lok or Keymod and why? just for clarification, I would be starting from scratch so I am not invested in either system at the moment.

I like Mlok. Seems to be more comfortable on the hands to me. And I like the look better. Seems that most stuff can be found for both. My only Mlok accessory is nice and tight while my only keymod accessory is all wiggly.
