Default Tailgate supports

The old metal ones always rattled. Dorman help part# 38541 tailgate cables fix that problem. Gonna get a washer for the quick disconnect so the gate won't come off so easy.

On my to do list! I hate the hinged ones that come factory.

I tried the frontier cables, but found them to be a bit too long.

Fit mine good. Description said 98 to 05, but the package said 01-05.

This is something I've been wanting to figure out from a non-Hardbody donor at the yard. But most tailgates get swooped really quick, so there aren't many parts to experiment with.

Wondering what the discrepancy is here. Maybe it hangs a little low for a bumper and 91/94 has his deleted? Can you post a pic of the tailgate down?

Installed these yesterday. Fit is just like 91/94's pics. It's a much nicer drive with no clanking when the windows are down, and tailgate operation is smoother. Thanks much for sharing. They're under $11 from Rock Auto for the pair.

I thought the switch to cables was a cost-cutting measure back in '90s when they started showing up on trucks.

Just fyi, those cables rot inside out eventually. I added a rubber gasket to the opening of the tailgate to silence its movements. So far so good.

If you hear clanking hanging bars that support the tailgate when down, then your missing the small rubber pieces that go into the area above and below the bolts the bars hang from. Their are 6 total rubbers to keep them from making noise.
