NEVER pull a battery terminal off the battery with engine running on an alternator-equipped vehicle, can damage the alternator. This is a 2-cent test for GENERATOR-equipped vehicles that "backyard mechanics" used in the past.

With engine running at 1500 rpm or more, your voltage across the battery terminals should read about 13.5 to 14.5 volts if charging system is OK.

Yeah, I get it. "Back in my day"(and dinosaurs roamed the earth) people working in parts stores were motorheads. They had first hand knowledge of those old muscle cars as well as the family sedan. Now the are extensions of the computer. Nothing but YEAR MAKE MODEL. In their defense the complications of todays cars are tenfold, so I guess I am just nostalgic for those simpler times

I actually work at Ecklers automotive and i can tell you the simplicity of the old cars is nice but when you have 13 different body styles of a 1957 chevy it gets to be a pain in the but lol

So you had 2 and 4 door sedans and hardtops, convertibles, wagons, and nomads
Then depending on the which model you had, 150, 210, or bel air that changed the entire interior patterns and exterior moldings ..

So 13 is a random number but the combinations are are close or more lol

I had mud get into my alt and caused it not to charge. 8mm pulls the 3 long screws out and cleaned it.
