So the vg33e is fully disassembled and am gonna wash everything in the solvent tank this weekend to make it nice and shiny. Then possibly powder coating the block to keep it from getting gross

Also please to say the 1997 pathfinder also has the correct oil pump/ pickup tube combo I need, so no extra work needed there!

Slowly making a list of everything I need, any important seals that I should do around the crank or cams?

And is it better to use the connecting rods from the vg33 or vg30. I noticed the ones in the vg33 seem to be a bit longer than the vg30's, taking reference from nissan nuts rebuild guide*

Thanks for any and all help so far! I appreciate anyone with a love for nissans, and d21's in particular. Can't wait to hear it purr!

I don't know about the connecting rods, but the oil pump/pickup tube on the Pathfinder engine works fine as long as you are using the Pathfinder oil pan.

You will, however, need to get the oil filter adapter/bracket that Nissan makes for the Xterrra/Frontier like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/232927707542

My motor is from a pathy somewhere in Japan. I used my VG30 oil pan as the pathy on won't clear the diff. That took hours to learn. You will need to massage the oil pan to clear the pickup tube.

The only difference here is I have a 2wd and his is a 4wd.

Does that mean it won't work for your 4wd? I can't say.

Either the oil filter adapter on the pathfinders is the same as an xterra or frontier, or mine was switched. Looks like my pathfinder motor already has the adapter in place, unless there is slight differences.

Don't u give it a hammer massage to clear the diff not the pickup tube?

Does it matter what kind of water pump I use. Or only xterra and frontier pumps.

So I'm sure this is one of the slowest engine rebuilds ever, but I'm slowly making progress, just got new pistons .50mm over. And and getting the block cleaned and bored out to match the new pistons size.

Currently on the fence on picking up a set of pacesetter headers. Is it worth the 2-300 dollars for the upgrade?

Also wondering if there is a good place to find stupid things like body clips and the clips that hold the inner fender liners in.

Looking forward to when I get it finished, but also enjoying the process of learning how the vg does its magic. As always thanks for any help and or suggestions!

The VG30 hardbody headers bolt on. I like headers so I say worth it. The black paint on them is only good for shipping and will burn off. Yes, I beat the oil pan for the pickup tube.

Clips and fasteners can be found on Amazon, if you know the part numbers.

The Clips and Fasteners website also sells Nissan parts, but you have to weed through their extensive catalog to find them:

https://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Ni...iners-s/14.htm

Like DH, I have the Pacesetter VG30 long-tube headers, too. I have had headers in the past, so I wasn't worried about painting them. Here is a pic showing the driver's side header when I was taking a picture of the alternator:

A better picture of that side:

And here is what my passenger's side currently looks like:

I've had those on for about 50k miles and 2 years now. Time flies.
