Default Studder at 1700 to 2000 rpm intermitently

Hey guys. I have a 1997 sohc 4cyl 5 speed 4x4 that I have a new engine and tranny in. Drives and runs great but sometimes when takeing off in first and shift gears on the go, I have seen my rpm needle jump around 17 and 2000 rpm. Above or below that it never has a hickup. It's just anoying sometimes. I've spent 4000 on all new engine, clutch, and tranny. Seems to me like it is a spark issue how fast it can buck. Doesn't happen all the time but I want to fix it. If someone has had this issue before talk to me.

Make sure your timing is set to 10 BTDC using a Timing Light.

Once that is correct, if you still have issues, pull the codes. It sounds like your engine is in Fail Safe mode.
