Default HVAC controls stuck

Hi guys. Been a while.

I recently got a 94 ex cab 5 speed. Its beat to death, but runs great, and that's all I'm worried about. However, the HVAC slider is stuck. It's on floor/windshield and won't move. I'm fairly confident the cable isn't frozen, because I can reach under the dash where it connects and move it a little by hand. The plat it connects to will turn slightly, but not enough to change it. Any suggestions? I really don't want to tear the whole dash apart, but I'm afraid that's where it's going.

Thanks for the read!

This happened to me also. It was the door inside the box. It was stuck in place. I had to stick my hand in there and push it free. I now flip the adjuster back and forth every few days to stop it from happening again.

I have the same problem, the cable moves so far then sticks just before it gets to the left (dash and side vents) , but I don't know where to 'stick my hand'

Is the place anywhere near the white plastic wheel?

Thanks

John

Pull the glovebox out and you should see your cables. there are 3 IIRC.
1. to the fresh air/recirculate
2. heater temp
3. selection floor/vent/defrost

Look on the driver's side under the middle of the dash. There should be a big black box with a white wheel on the side. You will see a cable attached to this wheel that pops off. Pop it off and see if you can get the wheel to rotate by hand. If it rotates then it's in the cable. If not, it's inside the box.

This is where mine was stuck. The door inside the box was sealed shut. I had to take it apart to fix this. Not hard just time consuming.

The cables can come loose too. They are held in place with special clips. When the clip comes loose, the entire cable housing moves instead of letting the cable move through the housing.

Remove the hvac/radio bezel, then pull the slider control panel out. The clips are on top.
