I hang mine with the outside portion down so I can get to the valve stem to air it up.

I've heard the argument that mounting outer-side down will lead to a valvestem being broken off when four wheeling. I find this unlikely though, at least when considering that the sidewall of the tire is likely going to be damaged in the same incident.
If someone is really that concerned about valvestem damage, then orient the tire outer-side down, with the valvestem up as close to the differential as possible. This puts the valvestem tucked well-in given the nature of departure angles.
