Default How far can I go

So I'm in love with this 1995 pathfinder I bought but its at 200,000 miles. Should I just swap the engine out when its time? I'm new to the wrenching world... Is that what people do?

Are you having issues with the engine now? If so what kind of problems are you having? It’s the old adage if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

How's it running? Besides preventative maintenance I wouldn't mess with it until it gives you a reason to.

If the truck is good and the motor dies, swap a new one in. Yes, that's what people do.

My 86.5 V6 truck has 262k on it and it's still working fine. Plenty of other guys here with 250, 300+ on theirs. Just take care of it and it should still have plenty of life.

Dad’s 95 XE-V6 has 380k miles on the original engine. Keep the oil changed and the timing belt changed.

I bought my 1996 for $550 with 215k it now has around 230k. The reason I got it so cheap is because it had the death wobble due to worn trailing arm bushings.
I put new trailing arms, OME springs, nice tires and aftermarket wheels. I would drive it anywhere. No real issues. Just drive it. Fix it if it breaks. Drive it more.

Koofstah i cant stress this enough.....TIMING BELT, TIMING BELT, TIMING BELT and cam/crank seals.

I replaced my VG30 at about 220k miles, but it had a hard life. I was getting blowby in the rings. Now, I can drive it just about anywhere.

I replaced mine at 176k mikes. Sadly it was due to a cracked piston likely due to a failed wrist pin. Ran fine like that other than the noises it made. Drove it a few months like that till I got a motor.
