My Heavy Duty truck has a lot of suspension parts that are unique to other Hardbody trucks. I'm pretty sure the Heavy Duty model came after they discontinued the dually versions.

Has anyone else noticed: Since Nissan stopped making the Heavy Duty in 1995, they have not made *any* trucks with a capacity over 1/2 ton. Even the 2018 Titan with the diesel engine and the gooseneck hitch option in the bed is still rated and sold as a 1/2 ton.

Do you think that has something to do with the whole Chicken Tax thing? I mean, why did Nissan and Toyota just stop making 3/4 ton and heavier rating trucks?

actually i was asking because i have no idea. but it was supposed to be slightly through provoking

i think the second part of your question "why dont they make greater than a 1/2ton axle" comes down to manufacturing and competition. The 3/4ton and up axles are floating axles which are a completely different design for load carrying. means the mfg would have to design, contract and support 2 unique pieces that share nothing.

the second reason i think nissan and toyota dont bother is that theres only effectively 1 market for these trucks. murica. ive never seen a ford, chevy, dodge or any 3/4 or 1 ton pickup overseas. ever. croatia, switzerland, iceland, italy, greece, etc. not a 1. if you kinda think about what sells over seas, it becomes really apparent that some massive truck is useless. they need these little shitboxes that move meat-bags on the cheap and can be parked in 8sqft of space.

Yeah, I like these little shitboxes, but sometimes I need to carry more than a meat-bag. lol

Besides, it's also fun to watch the jaws drop when a little runt truck is doing work that these rednecks claim that only their Super Monster trucks can do.

Chevy's got a Colorado with a little 181 hp diesel that I've been watching. It's got a towing capacity of 7,000 lbs and a GVWR of 6,000 lbs ...but it's $40k.

They even put NAPS-Z engine in the brochure.

I always thought that was some kind of slang term left over from calling Japanese "nips" in WW2.

That's the technical name for it. "Nissan Air Pollution System".
