Default Tilt steering column fix

The tilt column I bought from junkyard had a broken cable, cable attaches to a large spring and is what pulls the steering wheel to the full up position.

This is what the spring/cable is supposed to look like, (first 3 pics from David):

spring where cable attaches:

cable passes through this bracket:

cable has a ball end on it, passes through the metal and has some type of cone that prevents the ball from pulling through the hole:

Column I bought the end of the cable, where it attaches to the spring was broken and the part that holds the cable from going through the hole was missing.

This is how I fixed it, I drilled a hole through the threaded part of a bolt and than put the bolt through the hole with a nut, I than bent an "S" hook until I could get one end through the hole and bent it so it would stay in:

Than I picked up a short piece of chain and used it to connect the spring to the "S" hook, I didn't run it through the metal loop the cable was in but it works fine, chain I used is rated about 130 pounds:

Head of the bolt does not get in the way of the ignition cylinder (not pictured), could have probably used an eye bolt instead of the bolt:

Thanks, didn't notice the crack in the tilt adjust lever when I took the pics, but I asked my neighbor to hold and move the column so I could get the other end onto the steering box and he said the lever broke, later I noticed the plastic lever had the crack in it already. No big deal I wanted tilt for the function not it's appearance
