Default About my spartan locker install

When I was taking the old guts out of my diff there was this block on the cross shaft. I figured it was there to space out the spider gears or something so i put it aside with the rest of the guts.

But later when I was repacking my wheel bearings I realized I need that block the set the wheel bearing end play. The manual calls this the Thrust Block.

Clearly it wont fit inside the locker like this, so I did a couple hours of surgery with my grinder.

I ended up with this. I didn't get a pic, but there are 2 cups that fit in the locker and space the side drivers out, and the Thrust Block needs to fit inside those cups.

It has to go in after the locker is assembled, right before the cross shaft goes in.

Hiding in there.

So there you go.

Thats as far as I've got today, so I'll follow up when I get the shafts in and set the endplay.

Looks like I forgot to update this. I got the axle back together and the endplay was right in spec with the original shims.

What sort of locker? What axle? How's it work? Where did you get it and what does it cost?

I had to do something similar when I put a C200 LSD in a R200A front diff. I had the round slug like what you needed, but needed a threaded part to engage the bolt that holds the short flange in. I ended up annealing it to make it soft enough to drill and tap.

You do what you gotta' do sometimes. Nice work.

How's the LSD in the R200a work? Ive been throwing that around for a while now. If I end up wheeling more I'll probably do a rear locker and LSD in the front.

A Spartan lunchbox type locker in a h233b. It works well. It's pretty aggressive, the tires will chirp if I turn a corner with more than a little throttle, especially if turning from a stop. If I'm more like coasting around a corner the locker will disengage and tick around the corner.
Off road it's great. I could probly do a lot more in 2wd than I do, but I shift to 4wd when I get to the dirt most times.

I don't remember exactly how much it was, between $280 and $300 from Amazon.

I installed this with the axle on the bench and it was pretty easy. My truck came with a c200 and I wanted to upgrade, so I did the locker before the 233 went in the truck.

Good move annealing the slug, did you re harden it or just leave it? Being in the front, and having a LSD it probably won't see much wear.

Didn't need to, but I did anyway. In the front, all it does is act as a nut. I had to stick a long wooden dowel through from the other side to hold it while I started the bolt, and then hit it with the impact. Not ideal, but it worked.

I sold the axle to a guy in Arizona when I did my SAS.

Deerhurst, LSD in the front , in my opinion, is the way to go. It makes a huge improvement in traction, and won't stress your CV axles. They used to make them for the R200A, and probably still do. I used a rear axle one because I had it already.

if its a locker its not "pretty aggressive" its LOCKED. it allows no differential or delta between the wheels. it sounds like a 1-way locker if it only locks on throttle.

That's how most automatic lockers work. Even a Detroit won't lock without a little throttle and it'll chrup in a turn unless you keep your foot out of it.
