Default high idle sometimes

So my 93 KA is running very well, but I have noticed this for a while and want to ask if anyone has ever had the same issue.

This only happens when at a stop after driving for a while at highway speeds, when I stop the idle does not drop to normal, it will usually stay around 1300-1400, sometimes a quick rev on the gas and it will drop to normal, today on my way home it would not drop.

Almost like something gets hung up. Engine was up to normal operating temp and this was after driving 20 miles or so at 75 MPH.

Any other time the idle sits right where it is supposed too.

Only does this once in a while when at a light after a long drive.

Any idea's?

No codes on ECU.

Once in a while like a couple times a week, or once daily during your drive?

See mine does the opposite. When I go to take off from light, its like a .5 second shutoff then fires back up, but its only like twice a week.

Do you have the AC on? 13-1400 would still be too high of an idle though to compensate for a idle drop when pushing in the clutch. I think 800 is the standard for AC on?

Have you checked to see if there is any play in the pedal like with the toe of your foot to see if the cable is hanging up?

What about something like the IAC? Isn't that the same thing what they call the wax solenoid?

Id also check the TPS, I had one that had a bad spot in it and would hang up on one spot when I had it off and was manipulating it by hand.

i had this but a little more extreme on another car.

the throttle cable was coming out of the little channel on the throttle rotor from time to time. theres a little detent/retainer that keeps it in the channel and somehow it would come out here and there causing an up rev.

also sometimes linkage can get a little sticky over time. might consider taking osme electrical parts cleaner to the linkage rather liberally followed by some spray grease.

I would say maybe a couple times a week.

Doesn't matter AC on or off, no play in cable, tried lifting on the gas pedal doesn't effect it.

Wax element seems to work properly, if I start it and just sit in it while it warms up the idle will gradually drop to normal.

IACV was cleaned and tested last time I had it out, idle raises with AC on and lowers with AC off as it should.

Haven't messed or checked the TPS.

This only happens after a maintained high speed drive otherwise it idles and returns to idle fine.

I noticed that my 93 ka has started doing the same thing after about 30 to 45 minutes of freeway speeds as well.

No, didn't have a chance to look at it yet, ended up starting to paint our kitchen, this week end I will look at it.

ahardb0dy,

Have you checked your idle stop solenoid? It's right above the idle control valve and it closes off the idle passage in the throttle body when the ECU detects a signal from the Throttle Position Sensor. Use a 24mm open-end wrench to break it loose and unthread it. It's nissan part #16196U. A word to the wise: the guts are just in there loose, so don't tilt it downwards.

Your talking about the FICD that screws in above the IACV I believe? That controls the idle when the AC is on. It has been removed, cleaned and tested already.

Thanks
