Default Didnít get the Desert Runner.

Some of you know I went to look at a Desert Runner today in Nashville. I couldnít pull the trigger on it. I was hoping it would be pretty solid other than it not running but it was gonna be a much larger project than I need right now.

Interior is pretty shot. Most of it would have to be replaced. Dash cracked, driver door panel messed up, carpet has an enormous hole. Seats MIGHT be salvageable, but theyíre close.

Body was more than I wanted to mess with. Rust over the driver side wheel well on the bed. Some repaired damage on the passenger rear of the bed that had a lump that felt like bondo. Basically the best bet would be a new bed by the time you put the man hours into fixing the bed. Driverís front fender had several rust blisters. Passenger door was beat up. Not too bad, but several hours of work.
Large rust hole on the driverís inner fender. More on the edges too. Back side of the driverís rocker has some flaking rust but isnít all the way through. I donít think it would need patching, just blasting and painting. The whole truck needs to be repainted.

Mechanically the timing belt replacement was started but not finished. Basically it was disassembled to the point of removing the timing belt covers. The truck has been sitting a minimum of 3 years. The exhaust is rusted out. I didnít look too closely at most of the other stuff because Iíd already seen enough of the body to not really have much interest.

The good news is that every piece of the desert runner equipment is still there. Itís all faded and needs to be repainted or powder coated. The passenger side step has a rust hole.

He was asking $2750. I told him I thought the truck itself was maybe a $6-700 truck and the fact that it was a desert runner made me willing to pay another $1000 or so. So I offered him $1700, he countered with $2200 but I just didnít want to take this one on. Iím sure itís worth the $2200 but I just donít want to sink the kind of money it will take to get it where it needs to be. Being a desert runner it shouldnít be left as a beater 4x4. And I donít want another full resto.

Man, the pictures on the guys CL ad made it look so good. Now if I were to sell a truck like that, I would make sure all the visible bad spots would be pictured. So as to not waste peoples time.
$1700 was more than a fair offer for the truck. my max would have been a grand. Did you happen to see what number the VIN was?
