I have an HG41. Mine is the elusive/unheard of 4.11:1 gears. I get better gas mileage but not as much acceleration.

Perfect. Can just swap the old one on the new carrier.

I generally ride open/open until I come to an obstacle where I need one or both axles locked.

with a rear lsd/locker you can easily do more things and get yourself into more trouble easier too. its almost a trade off. regardless you should always have some form of recovery equipment with you; i.e. shovel, rope, come-a-long, etc. and a place to store it (hence a lockable toolbox that can't walk away).

again, the key is what's best for you right now. its better to have rescue equipment than locker IMO.
Agreed. With more traction you can get stuck better and further in. Hence why I never go wheeling with less than 2 rigs.

I would thing LSD/LSD would be great for the casual wheeler and icy roads.

yes, but no one up here knows how to do it :/ i am in nebraska, and there are virtually no nissan guys. Everyone that drives a nissan hardbody is a non english speaking mexican with a truck that is either bashed to hell or rusted to hell, usually both.

Dvdswan, where did you get your toolbox?

I believe the one from Camini is about 50 bucks cheaper. Pretty surea LSD from a junked rig will be cheaper still.
