Im going to try to remove the excess pipe from that manifold so it can ship in a smaller box. Im going to spray the studs with oil tonight so they have a better chance of not breaking. Ill soak them over night and take the nuts out tomorrow.

All good. It's soaking now. I know all about budgeting the build. It's yours when you are ready.

After days of rain, i got out there yesterday and made some progress. The engine is now fully bolted down. All bell housing bolts are tight. The starter is in and the wiring is connected. Since it is a vg33, i removed the oil boss plug and installed the vg30 oil pressure adapter and sending unit for the gauge. I also went to lkq and got a d22 oil pump housing for 12 bucks. Now i can use the sending port on the housing for a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Also changed the distributor base plate and set the vg30 distributor in with the retaining bolt. Still have to change the intake, wait for ups to deliver my exhaust manifold, connect the exhaust, change the timing belt, water pump and seals.

David Carrol aka Mr. 510 has my steering and alt brackets. They have to be modified. The alt bracket has to be notched and extended to clear the vg33 oil filter. The steering one has to be notched because the oil pump case is thicker than the vg30, and the water pump has to be trimmed on one corner to clear the oil pump. Remember that i am converting the newer engine to run all vg30 the accessories, so the original vg30 brackets have to be altered.

The rain should be out of here by late morning. I might get the vg33 lower intake off today so i can change the thermostat housing that has the rear water pipe for the heater core. Weather cooperating, i should have the VG30I intake on there today.

Then i have to change the slave cylinder and fluid line. I am getting closer. Cant wait to hear it run.

Just a side note for anyone wanting to to this swap…….do not try to install the driver side exhaust manifold after the engine is in the frame. It is impossible with the exhaust studs in the engine. The manifold will not clear the motor mount. I had to remove the first and second cylinder exhaust studs.

And to make things even more fun, i managed to drop my short ratcheting wrench while using the double nut method to pull the studs. It was working great……then the wrench slipped and i heard it hit. Then a sliding noise. That son of a bitch fell perfectly into the driver side exhaust down pipe. So now i have to take the fucking crossover pipe off to retrieve my wrench.

Until then, i have the engine rolled over so the timing marks are aligned. Harmonic balancer bolt has been removed. 27mm on the vg33. The rain around here is just relentless this time of the year.

All that is left besides the y pipe is to swap the intake, cam and crank seals, water pump, timing belt and tensioner, change the vg33 thermostat housing and rear heater pipe with the vg30 stuff, change the valve covers to my clean and painted vg30 covers, change the plugs, install the new oil filter housing gasket, then put the accessories back on the engine. Then i need to connect the upper wire harness and refill the fluids and it will be running.

My modified alternator and steering brackets will be here mid week along with the notched water pump. I had them modified so everything will look original. It was easier to send them to David Carrol aka Mr.510 to modify than to piece a belt drive system together to maintain accessory belt alignment.

It should be running next weekend. More to come…….

Oh yeah i still have to change the clutch slave cylinder and fluid line. My driveway is 2 inches of mushy mud. That is one of the last things i will do before reinstalling the front axle.

I had to pull all the studs to get the headers to clear, and that is with a body lift. My heart goes out to those with no body lift.

I wasted enough time yesterday playing with the exhaust. I really can’t do anymore until my stuff gets here later this week. This coming Friday evening and all day Saturday will be balls to the wall.
