Looks like, at this point, David's not been here for 3 days. Not a big deal, yet... but they are currently getting hit by an arctic front.

Arctic blast is almost over with. 30+ hours of hell without power started Monday morning at 2am. Finally got power on Tuesday at 10:45am my house got down to 31 degrees. Our windchill got down to -2 degrees. Temperatures we never see in the Houston area.
Checked my water main to find out it was frozen and cracked. After getting that area setup to redo, I realized I had more busted pipes than what I was expecting. Getting the house ready for a complete redo of the pipes. Gotta wait for the temperature to get above 65 degrees to start gluing everything. Not to mention being able to find all the supplies needed to do the job.

Do yall have gas heat available down there? Definitely be worth getting that installed.

Hope the house didn't get damaged too bad by the leaks man. Best of luck with the repairs. We've had a lot of snow/ice up here, but haven't lost power yet. I keep a pretty good supply of food around for emergencies, but have had enough just normal stuff in the fridge to keep going so far without getting into that.

I suspect your area will have a heavy "need" load for home repair products. Hope your local suppliers can bring in stuff from other states, as needed. Good luck man...

That only works if the water plant has a back up generator(in which they dont) to keep service going.

Luckily I know how to go into survival mode. I gathered every container I could muster up to fill with the snow and ice we did get. Also we had rain after day 2 of the frigid cold. Collected rain water in said containers to still be able to flush toilets. As ice and snow melted off my roof, collected that as well.
Water company fixed their broken shit today and turned on water. But so many fucking idiots didnt turn off their water meters so the water company turned the water back off. Lost all kinds of pressure due to either people not being at home and turning off their shit.
I found just enough materials to repair my water inlet to have a hose bib so I could keep filling containers with water to be able to survive. But cant even do that till water gets turned on again. Having trouble finding CPVC pipe. My father-in-law is looking into getting some from his work. Im hoping that comes through because who knows how long it will be before supplies get restocked enough for everyone to fix their shit.

Only damage my house sustained was the broken pipes. Eevrything below the floor level was toast. Had we not lost power for as long as we did, I feel my pipes could have survived. But here lies the main problem. The house was repiped about 30+/- years ago. When they did this, they didnt close up all the insulation issues they opened. This was before I bought the house. Ive been putting off the whole replacing the insulation blanket that is completely tore up. After repiping the whole house, I will be fixing this issue along with many other things so my family isnt so greatly affected by shit like this ever again.

WOW... Feelin' for ya and all the others in this predicament. BTW, I know most, in Austin for example, have water running thru the ceiling instead of below the floor. The strait below is all hard rock and foundations don't need to be "cut", just pour a slab and build.

Just how it is there, with home construction. Hope they redirect materials South.....
