Murano and Rogue - Infamous Nissan

My wife is wanting a new, used, car. She thinks that she wants a SUV...I'm thinking a cross-over SUV.

She wants it to be about a 2010 and have less than 100K on it.

We've found Muranos and Rogues in our price-range. But, I don't know much about them.

The Murano comes w/a 3.5 V6. It is supposed to be a good motor...is it?
What about the transmissions?
The AWD system?

The Rogue comes w/a 2.5 4 cyl. Good motor?
Good trans?
The AWD system?

They are known for the same CVT problems that plague most other Nissan cars, unfortunately.

CVT's are still rather new, in the industry. Even Subaru is giving their CVT's 10/100k warranty, now! Originally it was 4 or 5. I don't care for it, personally...

If I had a choice, and the wife would drive it (but mine does not) I'd go manual on the transmission. If you want reliable, manual is the way to go.

Sorry Stinky, can't speak to new Nissans. My AWD is an Outback. If ya wanna consider, lemeno...

I would say get a new vehicle if you go the CVT route. One word.....warranty.

Fun fact: Subaru and Nissan both source their CVTs (and other automatic transmissions) from the same manufacturer, Jatco. Both have problems related to the CVTs. Manual is definitely the way to go.

To the OP...The rav4 and highlander are good vehicles, but they hold their value far better than any car should. And they are not perfect, either. If you decide to go that route stay away from anything that has the 2.4L (2AZ-FE) 4 banger. They love to burn oil and occasionally strip out head bolt threads.

I'd not go quite that far..... educate yourself about the new Nissans. I'm sure there are sites out there, like IN, where you can get more/better info about "what's new" with Nissan.
