I have a 1996 Nissan pickup king cab which I believe is called D21
5 spd 4 x 4 Vg30e I have a skid/front protective plate and lost the screws. How do go abouts in finding the screw size? The threads on the mating part may also be stripped . Suggestions on how to approach fixing this? Photo attached |

Every Nissan Hardbody, Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra has the same skid plate up to about 2004. Snag some from a junkyard or go get something from the hardware store. There isn't anything special about them. They fit a 10mm socket. I don't know about the thread pitch.

M6x1.0 is the thread size and pitch. Get something around 15mm long

Thanks for answering. I suppose if threads were stripped and I want to use same holes I would drill larger size and use self tapping screws or drill and tap and increase the size of the holes in skid plate?

It's doubtful the holes themselves are stripped. The ten mm bolts, maybe. Probably not the steel they go into.

The holes get gunked up with rust and crap which can cause you to snap them. I tapped all of them and everything was kosher. I had 3 bolts snap on mine.

If they are stripped one thing you can do is drill them out slightly and tap them to 1/4" - 20. 1/4" is ~ 6.5mm so they are already pretty close in size to begin with.

If the holes are stripped, I think the easiest "fix" to try is to get some 7mm x 1.0mm bolts from Ace Hardware and just try those without tapping for the threads.
Then try 1/4", or tap for 8mm x 1.25mm bolts.
