Alternator.
Even though it is putting out 14.2V the signal for the light from the alternator is bad. Download the FSM and test the alternator.

ill see what i can find in the FSM, thanks Dave! btw the alternator is only about a yr or so old. the light has been on for as long as i can remember. just sayin in case it thickins the plot.

Anything electronic can last a day or 10 years. You just don't know.

i ended up taking the alternator to a alternator shop and they got my alternator up to 100amps. he said he pulled the stator from an Altima. dont know what year. any way the battery light is still on and i guess ill just have to deal wit it for now.
