Ok new guy here my son gave me a 96 Hardbody standard cab XE 5 speed not running well it was running on three cylinders so not totally accurate. Burnt valve on number two cylinder, needed timing chain set. He took it in on trade and it sat in his yard for two years. I needed a beater truck to place in another city I visit so free is good right? Well I'm still working on it. Of course gas tank had about three gallons of ethanol fuel in it and much rust, fuel pump locked up, oil looked like it hadn't been changed in 10 years. Odometer says 178K don't know if it even works. Needs shocks, center drive shaft support bearing, rear leaf bushings, haven't got to the brakes yet.
Here's' what I've done. Pulled head bought one exhaust valve lapped all the rest and installed with new seals. Head gasket, pan gasket, timing set, new thermostat, new fuel pump, pulled tank cleaned out rust, new filters all around. New radiator hoses, just got the new fuel pump haven't reinstalled the tank yet but poured some gas in the throttle body and it ran until the gas burned up so it's in time and should start when I get the fuel pump in. Bed has much rust (rusted through several places) only on bottom story is a guy used it for hauling swimming pool chemicals. No rust anyway else seems to be southern vehicle no rust from salt. May need some advice here and there this is a good site I'm impressed with the loyal following this truck has. I also have a 93 F250 factory turbo diesel for heavy hauling and a 06 Honda Ridgeline for comfort. Nice to be here, oh and I'm an old fart so I can smell BS a mile away ![]() Last edited by bluefishbeagle; 11-30-2017 at 12:36 AM. |

Welcome to infamous Nissan! Where in Alabama are you? I'm about halfway between Troy and enterprise. I have a standard cab bed that's a little beat up but not rusty that I'd let go cheap. It's red.

Up in Florence, I've got the bed off the truck and need to pull the liner off to see how bad it really is from top side, bottom has numerous holes how much you want for your bed my truck is silver.

Here's my first question the leaf springs were pretty much flat when the bed was on with about 100 lbs other parts in the truck did seem to sit level but any load would make it a tail dragger. There are two main leaf with one short overload is that normal for a RWD standard cab short bed? Seems I read something that some have four leaf per side.
