Default How to Remove the Bed

Too much rust, too many dents...

Maybe someone reading this will be like me; never worked on a car/truck in my life... So I did a search on this site and found some info, and dropped a PM to David29 who was very helpful. So, for all us present and future newbies, I took a few pictures.

There are 6 Bolts holding the Bed on. 2 at the rear back where the Bumper Brackets are bolted to the Frame.

Since I'm taking everything apart, I took the bottom 18mm Bracket Bolt out, and then the 18mm Bracket Bolt that is a bit in the way just above that. Then I had a straight shot to the 14mm Bed Bolt. I used an Impact Driver so all that took about 5min.

Then you do the same thing for the other side

There are 2 more 14mm Bolts that are easily accessible now. They are right above the back leaf-spring shackle. Just behind the rear wheel-well.

I had to hunt for the front 2 14mm Bolts, (remember, I'm new at this) David told me where to look... The Front Bolts are up near the cab, straight up above the forward spring shackle

There's a Grounding Strap that goes from the Bed to the Frame. It's on the same cross-member that the Spare Tire mechanism is mounted to.

Take out the Tail Lights. Two bolts hold them in, and disconnect the wiring harness. The harness is attached in the lighting recess by a plastic zip-tie type retainer. Unthread the harness from the light area and pop out the retaining clips that hold it to the bottom of the bed. Counting both sides, there were 6 retaining clips. The harness is attached to the frame after that.

Here on the Frame, you can see the location of the Rear and Middle Bolts, and where they attach.

On the Frame, you can also see where the front Bolts were.

Since I am swapping out Beds, I needed to remove all the items I might want to switch out.
First, I removed the Plastic Bed Liner.
Then the Tail Lights,
Then the Mud Flaps, the rear Fender Liner, and since the replacement bed didn't have them, I had to remove the supports the Mud Flaps attach to.
I also removed the Chrome Wheel-Well Trim that wasn't on the new Bed.

And don't forget to disconnect the Fuel Filler Tube from the Bed... just 3 Phillips Head Screws, and it tucks out of the way.
