Default To encapsulate or not

So I had to take out the bedliner to replace the taillight bulbs. It looks like it was a factory/ dealer installed probably has not been out of the truck since 1995. My question is should I spray something down on the bed before I put the bedliner back in?

best thing to do would be to clean it real good and apply some good wax on the bed.

I just went through the same project and was pleased to only find a little surface rust.
I (well mostly the oldest grandson ) wire brushed it and then I rattled canned with Rustoleum in a blue that is pretty close to the stock color.

I was wondering about another step though, such as a coat of wax as suggested by ahardb0dy, but was also concerned if the moisture in the wax would cause problems of its own.
But the way I figure it, assuming the bedliner went on shortly after new or when new (and from the overall looks of the bed believe that is the case), it took 20 years for it to get like that and if it only goes 15 more, I think I can live with that (or at my age die! LOL).

I do plan to drill some access holes in the bedliner so it doesn't have to come out to change a friggin' simple bulb!
Will then put some flat plugs in the holes to keep it neat and prevent any water from getting under it. Also have to run wires for the 3rd eye, interior light and other.

I had a bed liner in my former 87 from about 1989 to when I traded it in back in 2001, I lived in NY and than Florida with it and had no rust in the bed from the bed liner.

And that is what I was thinking, unless it is leaking and allows water to get under it, should be fine.
I plan to have mine back in the next weekend or two...depends on how the progress goes on other tasks.
Replacing the lock on my canopy slider is turning into a full 8 hr project! I will post an update in the What have you done thread when I get to that point.

My profile pic is of my rust free bed. I took out the liner and was so impressed with how the bed looked, I polished and waxed it before I reinstalled it.
