Gotta swap the oil pan with the old one. Pulled the diff, front cross member, alternator, oil filter bracket and starter to get to the oil pan only to find it is hooked on the plate between the motor and trans meaning I need to pull the motor out from the trans to make room to move the plate and get the oil pan out. F me!

I can't just beat on it due to it's shape and the shape of a weld seam. I'd need to grind the seam out to make enough room.

That sucks, because it also means you are going to need to fab up an oil pump pickup tube.

The VG30 pickup tube pulls from one side of the crank. The VG33 pickup tube pulls from the other side of the crank. They look so similar, but they won't swap. You'll need the bottom half of the VG30 pickup tube to fit into the bottom of the pan, the top of the VG33 pickup tube to bolt to the engine, and some way to get them fitted together in the middle. Thinking a TIG weld.

I can tig.

The oil pans are almost exactly the same. I can't see why I'd have to modify a pickup but I'll see for sure once I can get this one off. I really don't want to. Lol. The VG30 tube crosses over the crank. I should be fine as long as the pan clears and the pickup sits in the bottom of the pan. I would think.

Its the little things that are jacking everything up. Wish I noticed that subtile difference when the motor was out of the truck. Would have been easy then. Now its just a HUGE pain in the ass. Almost easier to just pull the motor. Its a toss up really.

Was so close to driving it and now I have to in do half of what ive done. It better be worth it. Ive been having a hard time keeping myself from throwing tools.

Doesn't help that my help tripped and fell and grabbed my fender flare and ripped it off by accident. Gotta fix that now too.

Here is a pic of the VG30 pickup tube setting next to the bolted-in VG30 tube:

attachmentid=1049

Here is a better one:

attachmentid=1050

What you can't really tell is that the VG30 tube turns down sooner than the VG33 tube (up in my pics, because the engine is flipped over). Because of that, I was not able to use the larger VG30 oil pan with the VG33 tube.

I didn't want to post the actual pics, just links, so you could focus on the text.

I originally wrote about this in my swap thread on Post #54.

The way I see it, you are going to need the bolt-on section of the VG33 tube and the drop down section of the VG30 tube. The overall length from Front to Back will need to be a little shorter to fit into the VG30 oil pan. For me, it looked like a bitch trying to get the lengths exact on those "nowhere near straight" oil tubes, so I just said "fook it" and kept the VG33 oil pan on there.

Just be sure your measurements are exact or the VG30 oil pan will hit on the fabricated tube.

I've got an extra VG30 pickup tube if you need it.

Remember, you and I have different pans from the get go. My 4x4 pan is different from your 2wd pan. I'm not sure how similar the pick up are.

I'm.curious to see how it pans out. Pun completely intended.

Had planned to not work on it today due to weather but its dryer than expected so I might see if I can drop that pan this afternoon.

The VG30 pickup tube I got was from a 4x4.

Stupid eBay seller didn't point that out when I bought it.

Haha. I wonder how the 2wd pickup looks? Both mine are 4x4 pans.

I just want to drive it. I'm tired of wrenching and having D21 withdrawals.
